Senate Democrats Renew Push to Allow Executive Branch Employees to Unilaterally Revoke Fundamental Rights.
That’s not how the actual headline reads, but it is 100% true. The headline, from Politico, reads: Senate Democrats Renew Push to Keep Terror Suspects From Buying Guns.
Terrorist Omar Mateen was NOT on a terror watch list. He wasn’t on the No Fly List or the Terrorism Watch List. He would not have been prevented from buying the guns he used to commit mass murder if the legislation was law. Period. Why then the new law?
Never let a good crisis go to waste.
Stories written by the mainstream media often include the obligatory quotes by politicians, or the media members themselves stating “no one is coming for your guns”. They wish to allay the fears of gun control opponents that a new measure is one step further down the road to confiscation, or a ban on guns.
Obama, Schumer and Feinstein are all on record opposing private ownership of handguns, yet we are supposed to believe that each and every attempt to restrict gun purchases are made with some good faith belief in safety or “reasonableness”? That’s about as laughable as a preacher/state legislator from Oklahoma who continually puts forth legislation limiting abortion, claiming he respects a woman’s right to choose. No he doesn’t, and until Chuck Schumer opposes a law restricting gun rights we know everything including a total ban is just “common sense”.
Why would people oppose such common sense legislation as now proposed? 
Isn’t it just common sense to believe that if a government bureaucrat claims to think you are a possible threat you should be placed on a secret list with no due process rights?
I’m sure you have dozens of thousands of dollars you’re happy to pay a lawyer to get you off of it, if you’re lucky. No? How about Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson’s cellphone number? It took Ted Kennedy “three personal calls to Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge, and several weeks’ time, to get the matter sorted out” when he couldn’t fly. It would be just as easy for someone not a member of American political royalty and a sitting U.S. Senate Committee Chairman right?
If you treasure any rights guaranteed by the Constitution and Bill of Rights, you must oppose allowing the suspension of fundamental rights by executive fiat.
On June 1, President Obama lamented his inability to remove gun rights from people for simply visiting a jihadist website!
Kennedy said, “[i]f they have that kind of difficulty with a member of Congress, how in the world are average Americans, who are getting caught up in this thing, how are they going to be treated fairly and not have their rights abused?” How indeed. For some however this is a feature, not a bug.
