The Federalist Society for Law and Public Policy Studies is a group of conservatives and libertarians interested in the current state of the legal order. It is founded on the principles that the state exists to preserve freedom, that the separation of governmental powers is central to our Constitution, and that it is emphatically the province and duty of the judiciary to say what the law is, not what it should be. The Society seeks both to promote an awareness of these principles and to further their application through its activities.
It has become increasingly clear that America’s young people are no longer learning about the first principles that built America from a colonial backwater to the world’s greatest superpower.THE CORNERSTONE PROJECT, presented by One Generation Away in partnership with The Federalist Society, is designed to promote greater understanding of our founding principles by developing and distributing a curriculum and reference materials about the single greatest exposition of these principles ever written, the Federalist Papers.
This curriculum, featuring both print and online components, will be distributed to high school teachers and students across America. While the Constitution is important, and will be included in the curriculum, the rationale behind its inception is particularly significant. Written by James Madison, Alexander Hamilton and John Jay, The Federalist Papers were used to explain to skeptical audiences the founders’ thinking about concepts such as the proper role of the federal government, the separation of powers and property rights.
The ultimate goal of the project is to strengthen civil society by ensuring the constitutional literacy of future generations, and make the US Constitution as relevant today as it was at its inception.

THE CORNERSTONE PROJECT is working closely with a team of prominent constitutional scholars assembled by The Federalist Society to distill the voluminous content of The Federalist Papers into six general categories, bringing the past alive and explaining its contemporary relevance. The collected essays and digital content are written at an appropriate level for students.
From enlightening the students in your own community to providing students across America with the tools to empower and educate themselves on the Constitution and the Federalist Papers, THE CORNERSTONE PROJECT will help create a generation of constitutionally informed and committed group of adults who understand what Ronald Reagan so eloquently stated:
“Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.”
